Worldwide, picked on published prices

Best online ordering system for restaurants (2026)

There is no single best online ordering system worldwide: prices, currencies and card processors differ by country. These picks are computed region by region, by stated rules, from vendors' published prices checked 28 to 29 October 2026. On the main rule, the cheapest published monthly plan, free plans win: Menuthere (everywhere except France), CloudWaitress (everywhere except UK and France), Ressto (US, Canada, UK, rest of Europe and Australia), Square (US, Canada, UK and Australia), GloriaFood and Storekit (UK), and OrdraFood (France). The cheapest plan that includes your own branded iOS and Android app: UpMenu (US, Canada, rest of Europe, Asia, and Middle East and Africa: US$49, CA$49 or €49 a month), Aexir (UK and France: £30 or €40 a month), and Next Order (Australia and New Zealand: A$159 or NZ$169 a month, billed annually).

UK restaurant or takeaway? The UK edition covers every UK vendor in the price index.

How the picks are made

"Best" here means cheapest for a stated need on published prices, not a judgement of quality, support or reliability. The same three rules run in every market, one currency at a time.

Sources
Every figure comes from the vendor's own website (pricing pages, FAQs, terms), read on 28 October 2026; the UK and France use the rows of the price index, dated on each row. A few points were re-read on the vendor's page on 29 October 2026 and are marked on the row. Each row links to its source and shows the date it was checked.
Currency
Picks are computed within one market and one currency. Prices are shown as each vendor publishes them, in its own currency; nothing is converted. A paid plan priced only in another currency is listed under the pick, not ranked. A plan the vendor calls free counts as 0 in every market the vendor says it sells in.
The rules
1. Cheapest published monthly plan. 2. Cheapest with a branded iOS and Android app (the vendor's pages must say iOS and Android, or the App Store and Google Play). 3. Cheapest with no per-order fee, in the vendor's words: only where the vendor's own page says there is no commission or per-order fee, quoted, and no per-order fee is published for the plan. Each card states its rule in full.
"Not published"
Where a vendor does not publish a figure, the row says "not published" and the vendor is listed under the pick with the reason. Nothing is estimated, and silence is never read as a promise: a per-order fee that a vendor does not mention does not qualify its plan for the third pick.
Ties and billing
Vendors on the same price are listed together, alphabetically. The lowest published monthly figure counts, often on annual billing, which is shown beside it; "from" prices count at their floor; weekly prices count as weekly × 52 ÷ 12. Introductory offers and free months are not counted for anyone.
Aexir
Aexir publishes this page and sells one of the products in it, so it is held to the same rules. It is ranked only in the UK and France, where the price index has its rows, and it is not in the third pick in either, because its price list does not say there is no per-order fee. Elsewhere it is listed under providers that take restaurants in every region.

Best online ordering system in North America (US and Canada)

The cheapest published plans in North America are free ones, each with conditions: CloudWaitress, Menuthere, Ressto and Square, in both countries. The cheapest with a branded iOS and Android app is UpMenu Mobile App (the US: US$49 a month, net of tax; Canada: CA$49 a month, net of tax).

US dollar and Canadian dollar prices are compared separately. A vendor that publishes US dollars only (ChowNow, for example) is listed under the Canadian picks, not ranked there.

Aexir, which publishes this page, is not ranked here; see providers that take restaurants in every region.

Best online ordering system in the Middle East and Africa

Gulf vendors publish in US dollars, so the region is compared in US dollars. The cheapest published plans are free: CloudWaitress and Menuthere. The cheapest with a branded iOS and Android app is UpMenu Mobile App (US$49 a month, net of tax). Zyda (Gulf, Egypt and Jordan) starts at US$85 a month, billed annually, before tax.

Aexir, which publishes this page, is not ranked here; see providers that take restaurants in every region.

  • Aexir (publisher of this page)

Web £30, Starter £30, Plus £40 and Pro £50 a month before tax (ex VAT in the UK); the aexir.com pricing page shows approximate conversions, about US$40 for Web and Starter, US$54 for Plus and US$68 for Pro. Restaurants in France have a euro price list, €40 to €60 a month HT. Aexir's apps and till currently show prices in pounds or euros, and address lookup covers the UK and France, so outside those countries check currency, tax, card payments and delivery with Aexir on a call before you sign.

For that reason this page ranks Aexir only in the UK and France picks, where the price index has its rows, and does not rank it against local-currency vendors anywhere else.

    aexir.com/pricing and aexir.com/fr/pricing

What the price does not tell you

The picks rank on monthly prices because they are the figure most vendors publish in a comparable form. These costs decide what a year really costs; each row carries what its vendor publishes about them.

Card processing, by country
No pick includes card fees, and rates change by country and plan. Published examples: Square 2.9% + 30¢ online in the US on Plus (3.3% + 30¢ on Free), 2.8% + 30 cents in Canada and 2.2% online in Australia; UpMenu 1.59% + €0.15 on consumer EEA cards; Innovorder (Stripe) 1,5 % + 0,25 € in France; Zyda's gateways 2.5% on Visa and Mastercard. Flipdish, Next Order and many others do not publish their rate.
Per-order fees
Some plans add a fee to every order: Slice $3.00 or $2.00, Owner.com Flexible 5%, Bopple 1.64% + $0.10 in Australia, Easy Eats NZ$1.50 to 35c, Hyperzod 0.99%, Gastronovi's Erfolgstarif 5% of online revenue, Delicity €1 HT and DOUSTO GO €0.50 HT. A cheaper plan with a per-order fee can cost more in a busy month than a dearer one without.
Fees your customer pays
Owner.com guests pay a 5% order support fee on both plans, me&u charges guests a platform fee, and ActiveMenus says a 2.5% optional software fee is included on guest orders. In the UK, Posso adds 60p and The Food Ordering Co 50p per order at checkout.
Setup and onboarding
Published one-off fees include ChowNow $119 to $499, Slice $1,000, iShopo $1,000, SpotOn $200, MenuDrive $149, Last.app €500, LivePepper from €599 and Fleksa from €299. Many vendors charge one without publishing the amount.
Contracts and billing
Many of the lowest figures are for annual billing. Menufy's $149 is on a 12-month agreement ($179 month-to-month), Zyda bills quarterly or annually only, Delicity runs a 12-month licence, DOUSTO GO 24 months and SpotOn's $0 All-In POS plan a 2-year minimum term. Owner.com bills month-to-month, and CloudWaitress says "There are no contracts".
Order limits and app store accounts
Free plans stop at an order count: OrdraFood Starter 20 a month, Menuthere Free 50, CloudWaitress Starter and Ressto Basic 100 (Ressto Basic takes cash only). A branded app also needs Apple and Google developer accounts: ChowNow lists Apple's $99 a year, and Aexir lists £30 a year on its account or about £130 a year on the restaurant's own.

Questions about these picks

What is the best online ordering system for a small restaurant?

It depends on the country, because prices and currencies differ. The cheapest way to start is a free plan, such as CloudWaitress Starter (100 orders a month), Menuthere Free (50 orders a month), Ressto Basic (100 orders a month), Square Online Free, GloriaFood Free (ends 30 April 2027), Storekit Starter and OrdraFood Starter (20 orders a month). With a branded iOS and Android app, the cheapest published plans are: UpMenu (US, Canada, rest of Europe, Asia, and Middle East and Africa: US$49, CA$49 or €49 a month), Aexir (UK and France: £30 or €40 a month), and Next Order (Australia and New Zealand: A$159 or NZ$169 a month, billed annually). For a small restaurant the order limit, card rate and any per-order fee usually matter more than the monthly price.

What is the best online ordering system for a takeaway?

For a takeaway the deciding costs are usually the card rate, any fee per order and delivery. On these rules, the cheapest plan with no published order limit whose vendor says it takes no commission or per-order fee is: Menuthere Lite (US$17 a month) in the US, India and Asia, and the Middle East and Africa; UpMenu Mobile App (CA$49 or €49 a month) in Canada and the rest of Europe; Chefzi Cash or no card (£9 a month) in the UK; Collectly Professionnel (€39.99 a month, billed annually) in France; CloudWaitress Standard (A$79 a month) in Australia; Next Order All-in-one plan (NZ$169 a month, billed annually) in New Zealand. In the UK, the UK edition lists each vendor's delivery and driver tools beside its price.

Are there free online ordering systems for restaurants?

Yes. Free plans in the picks include CloudWaitress Starter (100 orders a month), Menuthere Free (50 orders a month), Ressto Basic (100 orders a month), Square Online Free, GloriaFood Free (ends 30 April 2027), Storekit Starter and OrdraFood Starter (20 orders a month). Check what each one leaves out: order limits, card rates, per-order fees and paid add-ons such as an app.

What is the best online ordering system with an app?

On published prices, the cheapest plan that includes an ordering app under the restaurant's brand on iOS and Android is: UpMenu (US, Canada, rest of Europe, Asia, and Middle East and Africa: US$49, CA$49 or €49 a month), Aexir (UK and France: £30 or €40 a month), and Next Order (Australia and New Zealand: A$159 or NZ$169 a month, billed annually). An app counts only where the vendor's pages say iOS and Android, or the App Store and Google Play; a web page saved to the home screen does not count.

Is commission-free online ordering really free?

Not always. "Commission-free" means no percentage of the order, but card processing, flat per-order fees, fees paid by the customer, setup fees and contracts can still apply: SIDES, for example, markets its webshop as "0% commission" and says transaction and payment fees "may apply separately". What commission-free ordering really costs works through the figures per order. Aexir is not commission-free: it charges a flat monthly fee at published prices plus card payments at 2.5% + 30p per card transaction in the UK (2,5 % + 0,35 € in France).

What is the best online ordering system in the US?

In US dollars, the cheapest published plans are free: CloudWaitress Starter, Menuthere Free, Ressto Basic and Square Online Free. The cheapest with a branded iOS and Android app is UpMenu Mobile App (US$49 a month, net of tax), then FoodAmigos All-In-One + White label mobile app (US$54 a month), Hyperzod Ordering App (US$79 a month, billed yearly) and Ressto Scale (US$82.50 a month, billed annually, including taxes). Cheapest with no published order limit among plans whose vendor says it takes no commission or per-order fee: Menuthere Lite (US$17 a month, billed monthly).

What is the best online ordering system in Canada?

In Canadian dollars, the cheapest published plans are free: CloudWaitress Starter, Menuthere Free, Ressto Basic and Square Online Free. The cheapest with a branded iOS and Android app is UpMenu Mobile App (CA$49 a month, net of tax), then Owner.com Flexible (CA$349 a month, month-to-month). ChowNow publishes US dollar prices only, Toast publishes no price for online ordering, and iShopo's page names no currency, so none of them is ranked in Canada.

What is the best online ordering system in Australia?

In Australian dollars, the cheapest published plans are free: CloudWaitress Starter, Menuthere Free, Ressto Basic and Square Online Free. The cheapest with a branded iOS and Android app is Next Order All-in-one plan (A$159 a month, billed annually, ex GST). In New Zealand dollars, Next Order All-in-one plan (NZ$169 a month, billed annually, ex GST) is the cheapest with an app, and the cheapest paid plan is Easy Eats Launch (NZ$29 a month, + GST).

What is the best online ordering system in India?

No vendor checked publishes prices in rupees: Petpooja, DotPe, UrbanPiper and Restroworks publish no prices, and Thrive's site was offline on 28 October 2026. Vendors that sell there on one US dollar price list are compared in US dollars: the cheapest plans are free (CloudWaitress Starter and Menuthere Free), and the cheapest with a branded iOS and Android app is UpMenu Mobile App (US$49 a month, net of tax).

Does Aexir work outside the UK and France?

Aexir takes restaurants in every country at its published price list: Web £30, Starter £30, Plus £40 and Pro £50 a month before tax (ex VAT in the UK); the aexir.com pricing page shows approximate conversions, about US$40 for Web and Starter, US$54 for Plus and US$68 for Pro. Restaurants in France have a euro price list, €40 to €60 a month HT. Aexir's apps and till currently show prices in pounds or euros, and address lookup covers the UK and France, so outside those countries check currency, tax, card payments and delivery with Aexir on a call before you sign. This page ranks Aexir only in the UK and France, where its rows are in the price index.
